Art Supplies for Landscape Painting Workshop
Preparatory drawings
- sketch book: size should be suitable to be able to carry around always;
- pencils: H, HB, B;
- sharpener;
- kneaded eraser
Oil painting
- Portable landscape easel that will allow the canvas or panel to be totally vertical;
- Small canvases of pre-primed linen (25x35cm or 35x45cm). Prepared gesso wood panels in various sizes is another option;
- Palette, if your French easel does not include one, and an oil cup that can clip onto the palette;
- Oil colors (examples of high quality paints are Michael Harding , Old Holland, Mussini)
- yellow ochre*
- cadmium yellow medium*
- ultramarine blue*
- cobalt blue*
- cerulean blue*
- vermilion*
- alizarin crimson
- cadmium red
- burnt sienna or transparent red oxide or both
- ivory black*
- raw umber
- lead white**
colors with an asterix are imperative;
- wanlnut oil, refined and cold pressed linseed oil;
- small amount of rectified turpentine;
- oderless thinner;
- rags: lint free soft cloth as old cotton t-shirts or soft silk;
- assortment of good quality natural bristle brushes:
- filberts and flats from sizes 1 through 14;
- palette knife with a head at least 4cm long.
Survival gear
- hat;
- bug repellent;
- sun glasses that do not distort color excessively;
- sense of humor;
- patience.
