The idea of the course and its objectives

As the organizer I’m thrilled to present to you the Paint Away Tuscany courses for landscape painting.

After spending several summers in the area of Maremma during my academic painting studies, I felt compelled to share the experience with other painters. It had become a dream to have artists come together here, in these beautiful surroundings and enjoy painting in nature, talking about art and being in good company.

I decided to start exploring more in-depth the idea of an actual workshop, providing the participants with unique access to areas for landscape painting.

I found support with one of my teachers at the Florence Academy of Art, Maureen Hyde, who helped me not only to set up the program but who was also the very first guest instructor during the 2008 Paint Away Tuscany landscape painting course.

The objective of the courses is to unite beginning and experienced painters with the inspiring nature surrounding them, providing them with the right tools to reproduce and interpret the landscape in front of them into an oil painting.

We’ll be focusing on basic concepts like shapes, values and color but also on more complex problems like dealing with atmospheric perspective and planes. The use of the limited pallet will be illustrated by demonstrations of how to paint trees, the sky, water and architecture.

The workshops will be taught with the 'learning by doing' concept, where the teacher will give an example and instructions during on site demonstrations and the participants will then perform exercises to put theory into practice.
